Four mistakes you can make when choosing custom home Furniture
Imagine selecting a heavy antique chair with heavy ornate designs and pairing it with a minimalistic side table. Now picture this pair in your living room; how does it look? Not too fancy, is it? When deciding your custom home furniture, you need to be careful not to make things too complicated.
Sometimes, people tend to
overthink the design of their house. When it works to think deeply about where
you want furniture placed, a lot of factors can go wrong.
In this post, we’ll take you through the Four Not-To Do
things for custom home furniture.
Four not-to do things when choosing custom home furniture
As a custom furniture company, we believe that your home deserves the best aesthetic appeal. So, that is why we want to make sure that you do your home right! For this, we’ve come up with four not-do things when deciding custom home furniture for your residence.
1. Do not place furniture that doesn’t match with the shape of your space
The shape of your space versus the shape of the furniture matters. It looks odd when placing a flat shaped sofa against a bay window. Allow flat walls to enjoy the presence of flat furniture. For that matter, if you are hanging wall art that is curvy in structure, do not place it against a flat wall.
2. Do not place your furniture without considering the visual weight
Pick a room, any room of your home, and equally divide it into four quadrants. Now imagine the top view of your room. In all these four quadrants, you must have equal measure of visual weight. One quadrant should not look lighter or heavier than the other. For instance, do not place two cupboards and a bed in one quadrant, while you add a small table by the window in the other quadrant. Space out and distribute these furniture accordingly.
3. Do not add too much in your doorway area
Further adding to the previous point, a doorway in one of the quadrants implies visual weight in that area. This means that you do not add more elements in that quadrant. Keep it light because you want to be able to freely enter and exit the room through that doorway. Moreover, maintain 12 inches of open space in front of windows. Leave 10 inches of average space between chairs and sofas, and walkway space between furniture. Allow 2 feet 5 inches in front of dressers, and 2 feet per chair at the dining table.
4. Do not buy custom home furniture without measuring the room
If you haven’t measured your room, you need to so that you don’t buy furniture that is too large or too small. It may get a little technical, doing this math beforehand will save you a lot of money. This way, you won’t end up buying furniture that can’t even fit through your doorway.
